A wartime-style crooner helped residents at Farmborough Court celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day in style.
Residents at Farmborough Court Intermediate Care Service were treated to a host of wartime favourites including We’ll Meet Again, White Cliffs of Dover and Land of Hope and Glory to mention but a few, delivered and sang by Deborah Taylor Smith who serenaded customers from the courtyard of the Town End Farm service.
Manager, Alison Watson, said: “Obviously we’ve had to change our original plans because of the need for social distancing but we’ve decorated the service with red, white and blue bunting and we’ve had a few sing-alongs, having a professional singer here has really made our residents’ day. Everyone has had a lovely time.”
Farmborough Court Intermediate Care Service specialises in supporting adults to recover from illness and trauma, as well as those recently discharged from hospital, to remain independent and living at home wherever possible.
Customers and staff at Middleton House held their own VE Day celebration by dressing up in clothes from the era and partying in style. The staff bought land girl outfits especially for the occasion and customers got creative with their outfits too.
Colleague Debby said, ‘we all had a lovely day, there was BBQ food followed by traditional cakes like Victoria sponge which the customers were supported to make’.
The team also supported customers to decorate the garden with bunting, which echoing items rationed during wartime, the team found particularly difficult to purchase, so inventively used Aldi carrier bags and cut out the Union Jack flags.
