Tomato Time at Carisbrooke

Customers at Carisbrooke are trying their hands at growing tomatoes using the on-site greenhouse, along with 6 recently sourced tomato plants. With their attention and a little patience these tomatoes would be featured ingredients in their menu!

At the start of lockdown, the idea of customers at Carisbrooke using the greenhouse to grow fruit and vegetables was discussed with the staff and it was agreed that they could try growing tomatoes.

The staff then acquired 6 tomato plants, one for each customer and made sure they were well looked after! The staff also helped customers look up information regarding how to look after the plants to ensure they would flourish and not perish.

Customers have been involved in watering them and reaping the benefits, using the crop within Carisbrooke’s weekly menu.

All the customers seemed to have really enjoyed the whole process, along with the amazing weather, watching the tomato plants grow. They have now asked for it to become an annual occurrence, with the possibility of other vegetables as well.
