Deb Summerside has highlighted the actions of two members of her team, Danny Duggan and Vince Fairburn, from Toronto Square, here’s Deb’s account:
Danny Duggan
On the evening of 18/07/2020 I was on call and received a telephone call from staff member Danny Duggan from Toronto Square, he informed me that he had gone to administer one of the customers medication and was unable to get a reply, on following company policy he returned to the office and himself and Vince got out the spare keys to access her property.
Vince Fairburn
On entering the ladies flat, they found her on the hall floor, unresponsive. Emergency services were contacted and advised that staff needed to commence CPR. Danny carried out chest compressions until the Ambulance crew arrived shortly after, they took over the lady’s care and managed to bring her round.
The decision was made to take the lady to SRH as she may have suffered a rib injury whilst receiving CPR or a head injury may have caused the fall. Ambulance crew thanked both Danny and Vince for their quick actions.
It was later discovered by hospital doctors that the lady had taken an opiate overdose, and had it not been for the actions of the staff the outcome could have been a fatality.
Both Danny and Vince are very humble about their actions and felt it was something that needed to be done to save the ladies life.
As a manager I am very proud of both colleagues, and it just goes to show that “not all superheroes wear capes”
