Digital Switchover

The digital switch over in the UK, set to complete by 2025, marks the transition from analogue to digital telephone landlines and presents a challenge for Telecare services which rely on the traditional analogue system for which many individuals depend on to maintaining their independence.

Telecare services play a crucial role in supporting individuals, especially the elderly or those with health needs, by providing remote monitoring and assistance through devices connected to the telephone network.

The digital switch over means that traditional telecare devices, such as telephone handsets and Telecare units, currently connected to the analogue network, will need to be transferred to the new digital infrastructure.

To ensure Telecare customers in Sunderland receive no adverse effects to their service as a result of the digital switchover, we have been planning and testing new equipment that will work on the digital infrastructure.

Telecare users in Sunderland will have their equipment changed to a digital ready unit before the switchover.  This will be completed by the Technology Enabled Care Team, and customers will be contacted prior to completing any work. These upgrades are undertaken at no cost to the customer.

The digital switchover also presents an opportunity to improve telecare services by utilising newer digital technologies. This can include introducing devices with enhanced monitoring capabilities and other features that can provide more personalised and proactive care.
