Surveillance

•  Globally 2,954,222 cases (76,026) and 202,597 deaths (3,392 new).

As at 28 April 2020:

•   In the UK there were 161,145 cases (3,996 new) and 21,678 deaths (586 new)

•   In the North East there were 7,174 cases (104 new)

•   In Sunderland there were 1098 cases (5 new)

National News

•   Further expansion of access to coronavirus testing helps protect the most vulnerable.

•   Anyone in England with coronavirus symptoms who either has to leave home to go to work or is aged 65 and over will now be able to get tested.

COVID-19 social care staff wellbeing

During this period of increased pressure and anxiety, it is essential that employers send a clear message that staff wellbeing matters. The LGA and NHS England and Improvement have produced a comprehensive pack of wellbeing information and resources to help health and care managers support the wellbeing of staff who may be working under exceptional pressure to do their jobs while at the same time dealing with their own personal situations and emotions.
