Surveillance

•   Globally 2,471,136 cases (73,920) and 169,006 deaths (6,058 new).

As at 22 April 2020:

•   In the UK there were 133,495 cases (4,451 new) and 18,100 deaths (759 new)

•   In the North East there were 6,095 cases (320 new)

•   In Sunderland there were 1009 cases (87 new)

Ramadan

The month-long Muslim festival of Ramadan starts this week. Public Health England (PHE) has posted a blog that includes advice on fasting and reinforces existing social distancing advice, faith guidance, and public health messaging.
