Surveillance

•   Globally 2,314,621 cases (72,846) and 157,847 deaths (5,296 new). As at 20th April 2020:
•   In the UK there were 124,743 cases (4,676 new) and 16,509 deaths (449 new)
•   In the North East there were 5,611 cases (216 new)
•   In Sunderland there were 898 cases (29new)

Looking after your mental health

•   Public Health England (PHE) has launched a new campaign to support people to manage their mental wellbeing during this difficult time.

•   PHE’s Every Mind Matters platform has been updated to include a range of new resources, designed specifically to help manage mental wellbeing during coronavirus, include a tailored COVID-19 Mind Plan, COVID-19 specific content for individuals and their loved ones, and support for specific mental wellbeing issues such as anxiety, stress, low mood and trouble sleeping. The website also signposts people to activities such as mindful breathing exercises,
help reframing unhelpful thoughts and muscle relaxation. Find out more here.

NHS Health at Home

•   A new NHS Health at Home campaign signposts the public to the information they need to contact their GP, order repeat prescriptions, manage their wellbeing and existing conditions – without leaving their home. Find out more here https://www.nhs.uk/health-at-home

•   People who smoke may have a more serious illness if they are infected with coronavirus. Sunderland stop smoking services are continuing to operate although there will be restrictions relating to face-to-face support. For advice contact 0800 169 9913.
