Public Health

Surveillance

•  Globally 3,435,894 cases (86,108) and 239,604 deaths (976 new).

As at 4th May 2020:

•   In the UK there were 190,584 cases (3,985 new) and 28,734 deaths (288 new)

•   In the North East there were 8,251 cases (87 new)

•   In Sunderland there were 1,212 cases (6 new)

Guidance on coronavirus testing, including who is eligible for a test, how to get tested and the different types of test available has been updated on the following:

•  Unpaid carers added to the essential workers and those prioritised for testing (England only).

• Personal care assistants added to the essential workers

#QuitforCOVID Campaign

Yesterday saw the launch of the #QuitforCOVID campaign by the Smokefree Action Coalition, Fresh and respiratory clinicians. The launch of the campaign comes as a new survey shows millions of smokers are cutting down or have tried to quit due to COVID-19. If you smoke, quitting is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others. Together for Children

Together for Children’s Early Help team who usually run popular Time for Rhyme sessions at our Family and Children’s Centres have begun recording sessions at home and sharing them via our Children’s Centres Facebook page. The first virtual session has been viewed almost 5,000 times already and had several positive comments.
