What is AHPs Day?
AHPs day is a grass root opportunity for AHPs to come together and celebrate being part of the AHP family. AHPs Day is a social movement to enable AHPs to collaborate within services, organisations and regions to:
– Improve awareness of the roles of the fourteen allied health professions
– Demonstrate the achievements of local services, and their impact on patient care and population health
– Support integrated working with other services and organisations
– AHPs are now the second largest healthcare workforce with significant opportunities to support delivery of the NHS long term plan
Grace Lovell has just completed a successful 6 week practice placement within the council’s Community Rehabilitation Team, as part of her BSc Hons degree in Physiotherapy which she is undertaking at UNN. Although the landscape is different for us all at the current time, the team have together offered a great “first” placement experience to Grace, helping her to build her skills and confidence in this clinical area, both from a Physiotherapy and rehabilitation perspective, but also from an infection control point of view, competently managing the PPE requirements whilst providing “hands on” interventions to customers in Farmborough Court on an out of hospital pathway.
Jennie Bailey – Physiotherapist with the Community Rehabilitation Team and practice educator
“We were initially worried that due to Covid 19 restrictions the placement experience would be reduced, we were also concerned about the effects of distance learning and reduced practical experience before placement on the student, however with a few adaptations and a bit of creativity the Team were able to offer a range of learning opportunities which Grace has embraced. Grace has enthusiastically accepted all opportunities that she has been offered across the team, gaining valuable insights into the different roles within the Community Rehabilitation Team and of our SCAS colleagues working in Farmborough Court. She completed a very successful placement and we have enjoyed having her with us.”
Grace Lovell – University of Northumbria at Newcastle – Physiotherapy student
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here with the Community Rehabilitation Team working in Farmborough Court, largely due to the lovely therapy team making me feel so welcomed and involved. Jennie has been tremendously encouraging and supportive, dedicating extra time to educate and develop my knowledge beyond the scope of what I expected from this setting. The holistic experience gained has enriched me with many new important skills for a physiotherapist and has shaped my outlook on rehabilitation. I am sad to leave this placement but I am grateful that I have been lavished with unique opportunities during these atypical circumstances. Thanks to all team who have supported with my placement as I’ve been lucky enough to gain experience of not just working with the physios, but with the Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Therapy Assistants also.”
